Top 8 things to know before getting Invisalign procedure in 2020
So you are thinking of getting Invisalign aligners. Here are a few things to know before you get started.
Keep your aligners in as much as possible
The first thing to know is that you are required to put in your aligners as much as possible. Essentially, you are required to wear them for 22 hours in a day. This is when you will begin to adjust to carry on your day to day activities with Invisalign and also this is when the aligners start doing a lot of work to your teeth. Simply put, the longer you have them in- the better.
Invisalign is fast and efficient
Many people conclude that the only difference between braces and aligners is the aesthetic difference. One of the greatest things about Invisalign is that the results are much faster than traditional metal braces. In fact, most people begin to see the changes within a couple of months. But this is again for those people, who have religiously put in the aligners for nearly 22 hours a day.
Invisalign is custom made
Your mouth is scanned and the Invisalign lab creates a series of aligners that you will be required to change every couple of weeks or as your orthodontist suggests.
You will need to adjust how you speak
It is important to prepare yourself for a slight difference in the way you speak. We assure you that this is just a natural way of you adjusting to the aligners in your mouth.
This adjustment takes a couple of days and will disappear once you get used to the aligners. Our team at Walnut Street Smiles- Dr. Garima Sinha and Dr. Shahram Shamloo and Dr. Goldenberg recommend that you put in your aligners as much of the time as possible and also make the effort to learn to speak with the aligners in place.
Remember to floss
Flossing seems like a chore to do but with Invisalign, flossing becomes more important. With flossing you can eliminate the plaque buildup between your teeth. Having Invisalign does not change your Oral care routine and you are required to follow it as earlier. If plaque starts building up between your teeth, that would in turn lead to getting stuck in the aligners and there by misplacing your aligners in your mouth. This would result in pain and also poor results. Hence, flossing is important as ever!
Remember to clean your aligners
Take care of your aligners, as you would take care of your teeth. They need to be cleaned every day with a tooth paste and your tooth brush. Please follow the directions as prescribed on keeping your aligners clean from your orthodontist.
You are not too old for Invisalign!
Many people rule themselves out and do not talk to their orthodontist regarding Invisalign. Please come in and talk to us for any queries regarding Invisalign. People of all ages can benefit from Invisalign.
