By now you’re probably making serious headway on the resolutions you set at the start of 2015. However, we want to make sure that your list includes something, anything, pertaining to your smile. If it doesn’t, that’s okay! It’s never too late to add to your list or make a change.

We brainstormed and decided on four simple, but highly effective, goals that we’d love our clients to consider implementing for themselves in 2015. We’ll also offer some tips on how to make achieving these goals even easier.

#1 Floss, Floss, Floss!

You had to know this one was going to be on our list, and if you’re anything like most people it should be on yours! After all, Colgate reports that some statistics show up to 80% of Americans do not floss.

We don’t want to sound like a broken record by repeating the benefits of flossing, but just know that your tooth brush cannot reach certain places. Floss also works to keep bad breath at bay.

So how can you remember to floss? Try any of the following:

  • Purchase floss picks or floss holders. They’re easier to handle.
  • Opt for a proxabrush, which has a handle and brush that’s meant to clean between teeth. Highly convenient.
  • Set reminders on your phone. Plenty of people use their phone for medication reminders, among other things. Why not add flossing to the list?

#2 See Your Dentist

Once again, we cannot stress the importance of checking in with us at least twice a year. Not only will we clean and polish your pearly whites, but we can detect and correct any issues that might be occurring.

#3 Get Your Greens

This might already be on your list in the form of “Eat better!” The best way to do this would be to opt for more veggies. Not only are they great for your overall health, but they are super beneficial to a healthy smile.

We recently wrote about 7 foods that boost oral health. So definitely check those out, and at the very least, give these three a try:

  1. Broccoli helps prevent enamel eroding acid.
  2. Spinach is packed with calcium, great for bones and teeth!
  3. Avocados contain lots of folate, which helps in fighting off gum disease.

#4 Smile More!

Smiling isn’t just a physical reaction to happiness or something pleasant. The act of smiling itself can incite happy, positive feelings. Smiles release endorphins while simultaneously reducing the stress hormone cortisol.

And of course, smiling is an attractive expression. It’s what keeps people hooked, happy and coming back for more! So in this new year, you’ll want to take extra care to make sure your smile is healthier and brighter than ever.
